2011 — Mertz Manufacturing, LLC celebrated its 85th year in the manufacturing industry in 2011 with a record production year.
In 1971 Jack Bowker and
Partners envisioned a shopping center on the northeast
corner of Fourteenth and Hartford in what was then an
undeveloped part of Ponca City.
Forty years
later, the Ponca Plaza Shopping Center continues to
serve as a regional shopping center for a large area
encompassing two states.
The center currently has
29-tenants who occupy 181,747 square feet of floor
space.

Mid-America Door Begins 21st Year
2011 brought a new director
and more children than ever since the revitalization of
summer camp programs at Camp McFadden. Under the
leadership of Camp Manager Mickie Schmith and a
14-member board of directors, over 100 children had fun
in the outdoors this past summer during one of the four
summer camp terms at Camp McFadden. This is more than
double the previous year’s attendance.
Jo Alice
Dobbs recently was named executive director of Image
HealthCare in the Ponca City / Stillwater / Blackwell
area. She accepted the job after working with the
company as a nurse and educator since early this year.
In her new position, Dobbs provides leadership to the
employees she oversees and inspiration to the patients
and families she serves.
Making a statement
through photography is the goal of Ponca City’s newest
photography studio, Taglialatela Photograph located at
719 East Hartford.
Gold N Treasures is expanding
the retail store with their recent move in August to a
downtown location adding fashion jewelry, purses and
gift items. Formerly at Fourteenth and Prospect for
their first 12 years, they are now located at 213 East
Grand, the former home of The Accent Gallery.

Grand Opens Locally in January - Opening in January at
215 East Grand, the store is locally owned by Oliver
Weidner and his wife, Katee.

Executive Director at University Center - Two years ago
there stood an empty grocery store building, the old
United Supermarket building. Today that building is now
the beautiful new home of the University Center of Ponca
City thanks to a generous donation and diligent
fundraising efforts by
local citizens. Heading it up
is new Executive Director Stacy Tiger.
One of the
newest industries in Ponca City is Oil Well Services,
which located a regional office in Ponca City in June,
on the Throop property at Throop Boulevard and Highway
177 South. The firm doesn’t do drilling but contracts
with other firms involved in fracturing operations.
New Name and Logo for Osage Casino - This year,
Osage Casino was excited and proud to announce its new
name and logo. Osage Casino in Ponca City continues its
focus to providing excellent guest services and an
exciting gaming environment.
The casino is
located at 73 North City View Rd. and features 220 state
of the art electronic gaming devices. The casino will
celebrate four years of business on Dec.31, 2011.
Osage Casino marketing initiatives began in the
summer of 2011. The new logo, which incorporates Osage
Casino’s new name, simplifies the presentation of the
brand to its guests. Osage Casino’s name and symbol
serves as our promise to guests to always deliver a
superior gaming experience and exceptional service.

Opens on Grand - UnWINEd opened at 217 E. Grand on
September 1.
New Location for Pharmacy - A
long-time Ponca City pharmacy has a new name and new
location. O’Connor Pharmacy, formerly at 1113 East
Hartford for over 50 years is now Bintz Pharmacy and
relocated to 2701 N. 14th early October.
Ponca
City radio ministries 89.7 The House FM (KJTH-Ponca City
and KZTH-Oklahoma City) and 88.7 My Praise FM
(KLVV-Ponca City), faced damage in 2011 they never
imagined they would face. On May 24th, The House FM’s
500-foot tower west of El Reno that broadcasts the 88.5
signal was hit by an EF-5 tornado as part of the storm
system that plowed through Oklahoma and Kansas that day.
The tower was totally destroyed and major damage was
sustained by the transmitter, building, back-up
generator, and propane tank as well. October 6, 88.5
went back on the air at 50,000 watts with a new 500-foot
tower, antenna, and transmitter.
Lakeview
Campground, 8875 Lake Road, began accepting RVs the
first week of July.
Ponca City Liquor Warehouse
is Ponca City’s newest liquor store, located at 500
South Fourteenth.
The Bag Lady Moves To Grand
Avenue
Frazier’s Sports Bar and Grill opened in
Feburary at 2217 North Fourteenth, located at the
Quality Inn Hotel.
