2013 — An Enthusiastic Crowd turned out for the organizational meeting of “Guardians of the Ribbon Northern Oklahoma Chapter,” nicknamed Pink Heals. The meeting was held Jan. 21, 2013, at the No. 1 Fire Station.
Ponca City Development Authority Formed in 2003 In
today’s post-recession, hyper competitive global
economy, the management of local economies has become
more important than ever before. In Ponca City, this is
the responsibility of the Ponca City Development
Authority, (PCDA). PCDA was the first economic
development organization in the state of Oklahoma to
gain accreditation from the International Economic
Development Council.
Only 31 organizations in the
world have gained this honor. PCDA has also been
recognized numerous times both for its effectiveness in
economic development, as well as its impact upon Ponca
City as PCDA steered the local economy through
significant challenges during the last ten years.
Dr. Brian and Dr. Jessica Zwanziger have enjoyed
practicing optometry in Ponca City since 2008. Their
office is located at 521 E Hartford Avenue. It is the
former practice of Dr. J.C. Trotter, who was an
optometrist in Ponca City for over 40 years.
Spanky’s Pub is a new nonsmoking establishment, located
at 1006 South Waverly. The newly revamped business was
previously Sye’s Tavern.
Credit Union Celebrates
Anniversary - Cherokee Strip Credit Union, formerly
Conoco Employees Ponca City Credit Union was founded on
October 10, 1933, in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
In 2007 the Conoco Museum opened as
a tribute to the rich heritage of Conoco. To date this
world-class museum has hosted over 35,000 visitors from
every state and over 50 countries. In 2011 the Conoco
Museum was awarded the Outstanding Historical Museum in
Oklahoma by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The museum
was cited for featuring remarkable artifacts,
photographs and other material that were expertly
displayed and interpreted.

has opened on North Fourteenth Street. Owners, Ron and
Juliet Gales, announce the opening of Perfect Sit
Furniture Sales at 3214 North Fourteenth Street
Ponca City Medical Center was recognized earlier this
year with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog
Group, an independent national nonprofit run by
employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.
New Facility Being Built for Cannon Honda
Carrine’s Floral and Gift has opened at 113 West
Prospect. The owner is Sandy Carrine Jones. In addition
to the floral and gift shop, another service offered is
tanning.
Ponca City Medical Center opened Kay
County Ear, Nose and Throat earlier this year at 421
East Hartford to serve the needs of patients, young and
old. The clinic is staffed by James Rebik, D.O., a board
certified otolaryngologist and an active member of the
medical staff at the hospital. Doctors who specialize in
otolaryngology are called otolaryngologists. Frequently
they are referred to as ENT (ear, nose,
and throat)
specialists.

Ponca City based manufacturer Head County
Food Products, Inc., received the 2013 Governor’s Award
for Excellence in Exporting and the U.S. Department of
Commerce Export Achievement Certificate.
Premier
Physical Medicine, 3011 North Union, is a new medical
services facility, offering services for people
diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. PPM
offers a successful non-surgical treatment option.
The new IQ Car Wash Dynamics has opened on 14th
Street, in the former location of Furr’s Cafeteria, The
deluxe car washing is state of the art and the second
one in the world of its kind, according
to Scott
Shepherd, owner.
Shepherd of Blackwell, has been
in the car wash business a number of years, so he and
his son Justin are not new to the industry. Justin owns
a car wash in Tonkawa and Scott one in Blackwell.
The 24-7 car wash has five self service bays, and
six vacuums with triple motors, and one carpet shampooer
and spot remover. There is a soft touch bay with
sponges, plus a touch free machine. Also there is a
vending machine with various fragrances, plus a vending
machine for all car care products, is available. The
vending machines and vacuum machines will take money
other than coins.
The new “Whimsy” shop at Ponca
Plaza, lives up to its name with unique home
decorations, fashions, jewelry, Christmas and party
items. Using vintage furniture for displays, the store
is a fun place to visit and to shop.
The Kay
County Health Department has been a part of the
community for more than 60 years.
Candy Lindsey,
D.O., joined the Ponca City Medical Center medical staff
this summer and will has been seeing patients since Aug.
26.
Grand Avenue has another retail business.
Calie Jo’s, which was located at 1800 North Fifth Street
in Hartford Square since July of 2009, made their move
downtown. The new location has been open since July 23.
From new faces to new looks, 2013 has proven to be
another exciting and busy year at Ponca Plaza Shopping
Center. Ponca Plaza success in 2013 again speaks to the
loyal regional customer base which it serves in the
multistate area as it has seen occupancy rates increase
while the national norm has been one of decreases or
status quo at best. The current occupancy rate at Ponca
Plaza is 97 percent.
This fall marks the 30th
anniversary of Brace Books and More, Inc. In 1983, Jerry
and Jean Brace opened a small 1000 square foot bookshop
in Ponca Plaza. After relocating twice to a larger space
and expanding the current location, the store now
occupies 5000 square feet at 2205 North 14th Street, in
the building with Hometown Furniture and Northern
Therapy and Rehabilitation, Inc.
